Master’s Paper & Project, 2020
LGBTQ+ Young Adult Fiction Anti-Bias Selection Tool and Core Collection
The master’s paper and project for my MSLS which includes an anti-bias selection tool and core collection.

Abstract: This project includes an anti-bias selection tool and core collection of 67 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and related (LGBTQ+) young adult (YA) fiction print books, which are based on anti-bias selection aids, as well as starred reviews and vetted recommendation lists from reputable sources, respectively. This paper provides (1) a literature review on the background of the topics involved in the project, including LGBTQ+ youth, LGBTQ+ centers, YA fiction books, anti-bias book selection, and core collections; (2) methods on developing the project, including book selection for the core collection, building a selection tool, and creating a website as a platform for the project; and (3) an evaluation of the core collection by 10 LGBTQ+ community center library staff members across the United States and one teen services public librarian, which provided the basis for updates to the core collection. The project supplements research on anti-bias book selection and LGBTQ+ YA books, as well as aids in bridging the gap in LGBTQ+ selection of materials for libraries.

Quarantine and Isolation Periods – COVID-19
Developed the first quarantine and isolation periods for Covid-19 flowchart that was approved by the Wake County epidemiologist and others, which continues to be revised and used throughout the Covid-19 pandemic by Wake County Contact Tracers.
This was created during the time I was still a Library Assistant but acted as a Contact Tracer under the The Division of Emergency Management for Wake County.
